About this mod

A realistic 3D model of a spruce trunk (apparently Norway spruce) and the surrounding ground. It's not doing well, probably attacked by ips duplicatus, and will have to be cut down soon (rip). There are full detail and lowpoly models with 8k textures for the trunk and ground separately.

THIS IS AN ASSET FOR MODDERS, IT WON'T DO ANYTHING IN YOUR GAME!

Description:
This is a realistic 3D model of a tree trunk to be used in your mods. It is made from photos of the real object and simplified into two lowpoly meshes. It is not really a drag-n-drop model, because only the first 1.5m of the tree is captured and the ground is not seamless. The trunk textures are unwrapped nicely into a square and should be easy to apply to any cylindrical mesh with a vertical seam. The bark textures tile horizontally (the tree is round bruh).

The textures haven't gone through any editing (yet). The photos were taken in overcast weather, but there are still darker and lighter areas due to stuff like branches. There are also some big jumps and sharp edges in height and normal textures on the ground where the tree and a miscellaneous object (random tourist creation) are. I plan to clean these up later.

File info:
Made from 134 photos, original generated mesh had over 5 million vertices.
Trunk: The body of the tree, around 1.5m tall capture (not a whole tree).
Ground: 2,11x2,12m square with a hole where the tree is.
Hipoly files: full detail files, millions of tris, 8k diffuse (sRGB).
Lowpoly files: basically a cylinder and a plane, 8k diffuse (sRGB), normal (linear) and displacement (linear) texture.
Gaussian splat file: TBD.

File formats:
The meshes are in .obj file format. I use Blender to edit the meshes, so I can export it to other formats too if there is demand. I upload .obj because I think it is simple and usable in any program. The textures are in .png file format, either 8bit RGB(A) or 16bit floating point BW for heightmaps. I use .png because it is a lossless format and all programs support it. You are probably going to downscale the textures and play with colors to make them fit better in your mod/game. I didn't use a Skyrim specific format such as BC7 dds, as they are real pain to work with for me. Though if you have good reasoning, I can switch to another format.
To make my assets I use a phone camera, Darktable, Meshroom, Blender and GIMP.

Gaussian splat file???
Basically it is a point cloud, but the points are blurry colored blobs, which makes it look amazing. It's a new technology and I don't think any game uses them yet, but I'm sure they will. Anyway, someone might make a mod to enable their use eventually. There are also tools popping up for working with gaussian splats or making meshes out of them.

Why it is here:
I needed a community space to put my stuff and I mod Skyrim a lot, and I like how Nexus works. I also mostly make stuff that would fit in Skyrim like nature, walls and sidewalks. I would love to see my assets in game, but just making them is enough work and I think other people can use them in more meaningful ways than I would come up with.
