Only follow this section if you were previously running all mods from v009 and/or know what you are doing. I'm providing this for your benefit, but make no promises I won't miss something here or you didn't miss something previously. Skip this section if you are new to the list or were on a version other than 009.

SFSE will not be updated to work with the Beta, so if you opted in, you might want to roll back. No SFSE = no plugin support = no esm mods

The latest Steam version of Starfield (1.7.36 released on 10/9/2023, not the Beta) and a basic understanding of modding or the ability to search for an answer to your question.

SFSE will not be updated to work with the Beta, so if you opted in, you might want to roll back. No SFSE = no plugin support = no esm mods

Turn off Steam's automatic updates for Starfield.
Right-click Starfield in your Steam Library and select 'Properties...'
Select Updates from the left menu
Change Automatic Updates to 'Only update this game when I launch it'. This will keep older mods from breaking when Bethesda releases a patch. When you're ready to update, you can do so by launching the game through Steam.
If this is your first time playing, launch Starfield from inside of Steam. You can exit once you've reached the main menu. This will write the necessary ini files to your \Documents\My Games\Starfield directory.

Mod Organizer 2

Extract somewhere convenient (on an SSD).

Vortex may work fine, but I only use Mod Organizer so I can't help you with it.
See Install and Configure Mod Organizer for Starlit for help configuring Mod Organizer for this (or any) mod list.
Enable mod support for Mod Organizer 2: In MO2, go to Settings -> Plugins -> Starfield Support Plugin, and change enable_plugin_management from false to true

Note: You will enable individual plugins in the right panel by checking the boxes just as you do in the left panel but they won't work until you install plugin.txt enabler in the SFSE section

StarfieldCustomIni - Starlit

Description: An almost empty StarfieldCustom.ini file that only enables mods and disables intro videos and message of the day. You can add your own settings here if you need to, I won't be updating this again unless I have no other choice. All Starlit settings are now handled by the All In One file.
Installation: Manual download from my Files page and extract to \Documents\My Games\Starfield. Overwrite the existing file if you have one. If you are using profile-specif Game INI Files, you will also need to save it to \Mod Organizer\profiles\YourProfileName. Make sure MO2 is recognizing your updated StarfieldCustom.ini file once you've done that.
  

Kezyma's Root Builder for Mod Organizer

Note: Root Builder works for all Mod Organizer 2 games, not only Skyrim Special Edition
Installation: Close Mod Organizer and Manual download and extract the rootbuilder folder to \Mod Organizer\Plugins. Inside the rootbuilder folder, confirm you have two subfolders, shared and rootbuilder, along with __init__.py and two readme files. Launch Mod Organizer and confirm Root Builder is present by going to Tools -> Tool Plugins -> Root Builder (no need to run any of the options)

Installation:
Mod Manager download
To install SFSE in Mod Organizer for Root Builder, sfse_1_7_36.dll and sfse_loader.exe need to be moved into a root folder that sits inside the <data> folder. Once that is done, the Data folder can be set as the data directory.


1. Right-click the <data> folder and select 'Create directory...' and name it Root.
2. Highlight only sfse_1_7_36.dll and sfse_loader.exe and drag them into the Root folder.
3. Uncheck the sfse_0_1_5 folder


4. Click OK when finished.
5. Select <Edit...> from the dropdown menu


6. Click the + to add an Executable then 'Add from file...'
7. Navigate to your \Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield folder and double-click starfield.exe to select it. (sfse_loader exists because of Root Builder magic, but you won't find it in your Starfield folder)
8. Manually change the binary to sfse_loader.exe instead of starfield.exe
9. Change the Title to SFSE
10. Optional: If you want to keep the Steam overlay (I use it for the FPS counter), In the Arguments section, enter -- %COMMAND%


11. Click Apply, then from the same dropdown, select SFSE so it is the default option.

Note: You will always launch Starfield using SFSE from within Mod Organizer unless you are purposely downloading the latest update from Bethesda.

To install the Starfield Performance Patch in Mod Organizer, the ini files need to be moved into a root folder that sits inside the <data> folder. Once that is done, the Data folder can be set as the data directory.
In the Quick Install window, select 'Manual'.

1. Enable mod support for Mod Organizer 2 if you haven't already done this.
In MO2, go to Settings -> Plugins -> Starfield Support Plugin, and change enable_plugin_management to true


3. Enable individual plugins in the right panel by checking the boxes.

5. 1.7.36 added FOV sliders to Settings --> Accessibility, so I have removed them from my config. I believe the default is 85 for 1st person and 70 for 3rd person, so you need to go in and change those yourself. I recommend between 90 and 110 for each.

6. If your video card only has 8GB of RAM and you are experiencing severe FPS drops, first disable everything in the Base Graphics section, second try not to run higher than medium settings, if that still doesn't work, disable Fullscreen Optimizations:
1-Open Starfield directory
2-Right click on Starfield.exe
3-Click Properties
4-Click Compatibility
5-Enable Disable fullscreen optimisations check-box
6-Restart PC

7. Launch the game by running SFSE from Mod Organizer.

8. If you find it too difficult to kill enemies, open StarlitCombat.toml in Starlit CCR - All In One and remove the # from lines 12-21 (SetGS fDiffMultHP)
